What is Safer Buffalo Grove?

The SAFER Buffalo Grove Triad is a community initiative that focuses on improving the safety, security and peace of mind of the senior population through education efforts and community engagement. SAFER began as a joint effort between the Buffalo Grove Police Department, Buffalo Grove Fire Department, Buffalo Grove Park District, Vernon Township, Wheeling Township and Vernon Area Public Library District.  Many additional organizations and individuals now participate in SAFER.  Some of these partners include Indian Trails Library, Belmont Village, Sunrise Assisted Living, Catholic Charities, Waverly Inn, Friends of the Parks and SAGES of Buffalo Grove.

The goals of SAFER are to:

  • Reduce criminal victimization of seniors in our community.
  • Improve the safety and well-being of seniors in our community.
  • Educate seniors regarding the services available to them through local agencies.
  • Foster communication and build relationships among the agencies that serve seniors in the Buffalo Grove area.

Why SAFER?  In recent years, it had become clear that members of each government agency were trying to serve seniors but often were unaware of the programs and benefits we each provided.  It was also apparent that many seniors didn’t know about the services they were entitled to through the various agencies.  Through SAFER, the agencies work together to identify and address areas of need, learn about the programs that are available to local seniors and provide residents with a trusted resource from which they can seek help.
